You really seem to be into the rhythm of life in India and the sights and smells come jumping off the page (or rather screen). We have not yet worked out whether it is you on the left of right of the picture and of course you may yet discover that you have unknowingly been betrothed to a local young man. But never fear, all the research shows that arranged marriages as just as successful as the other sort, whatever they are called - disarranged, perhaps. If half a dozen cows turn up at Upper Belmont Road we will know what has happened.
Life in Bristol goes on much as usual although the papers nationally are full of the impending financial crisis that will befall us. One of the wonderful things about travel is that it puts all this into some sort of perspective and even now it seems difficult for us to see this any of as a disaster when we know how most of the people on the planet live. So enjoy it! Love from Margrit and John - PS we love the blog
I'm glad it's getting warmer... it will be properly hot soon. I've been to a wedding in Hitchen near london (one of Nina's cousin's) and despite the effort gone into the clothes and the amazing food there were also plastic cups and plates! The most distressing point was when someone care round with a big bin bag half way through the evening and threw away all the uneaten food - which was lots and it was soo tasty!
I'm just at home with my parents for a few days because it's easter - in case you didn't know already. I hope the easter bunny finds you in the mountains, and that the chocolate eggs haven't all melted!

You're so good at describing things it makes me feel a bit like I'm there! I've been looking at your facebook site and seen all the photo's, the assistant house mother looks lovely and friendly, and Rishikesh looks amazing. I think it's very strong of you to stay as a house mother in Deradune, it must be tempting to go and stay in Rishikesh. It sounds like the kids are very fond of you, naturally!
How long are you staying at the school? and when is your mum going to visit?
We were shocked by the chaos - more so even than Africa - which seems to exist alongside quite a high materiality and westernisation, at least in Delhi. You seem to take it all in your stride; perhaps that's what comes from growing up in Bristol. Speaking of which Irene's choir's concert in St Paul's yesterday was quite wonderful and the pieces by the youth choir brought tears to the eye of at least one middle-aged man.
How interesting that you will be playing and staying at Sri Aurobindo ashram in Delhi - that is where we stayed for several days and found it a real haven from the bustle of the city. Everywhere one looks there are rather forbidding portraits of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother looking disapprovingly down at you. (There are a Montessori school at the ashram which isdefinitely worth a visit.) Thinking about it, the mother came to India in similar circumstance to you so perhaps to are fated not only to be the mother in your school but the MOTHER!! With love from Margrit and John

In response to:the new job

Congratulations on the job Suzanne, sounds like you've landed on your feet (as usual).
